Leadership Development Schools
Allison Elementary, Austin Independent School District
Akins High School, Austin Independent School District
Westview Middle School, Pflugerville Independent School District
The CTLDA has partnered with two Central Texas school districts. First, the Austin Independent School District, and beginning Fall of 2007, the Pflugerville Independent School District. The CTLDA will support the three Leadership Development Schools for the 2007-2008 school year.
All three schools are involved in a collaborative inquiry process conducted by principalship cohort students under the guidance of university staff. These campus studies serve several purposes:
- provides principalship program cohort members with a community-based, qualitative and quantitative research model which serves as an authentic learning process combining collaborative inquiry, equity audits, analysis of results, and presentation of findings;
- provides the school site with invaluable data to utilize in goal setting, planning and evaluation of campus practices;
- strengthens partnerships between the university, school district and community organizations while coordinating efforts to improve educational opportunities for the students on the campus
- serves as a vehicle for professional research into effective leadership preparation practices
The leadership development model also provides each campus with 1-2 administrative interns serving as assistant principals while receiving intensive mentoring from the campus principal as well as university support. Again, our principalship program interns receive authentic learning experiences while serving schools as valuable team members.
